My name is Justin Nicholas Joseph and I was born on May 9th, 1995 at 10:20 p.m. I'm my mommy's second child.

The story starts with my mommy going to the doctors that morning and then spending the rest of the afternoon with my grandma. Then they went to grandma's house to wait for my mommy's sister and brother-in-law and 3 nieces who were moving back to Calgary that day.

My daddy went to the Calgary Flames Hockey game and my mommy insisted he carry a pager with him. My mommy was going to go back home after dinner and visit with her sister (30 minutes from grandma's and the hospital) but had been uncomfortable all day long with cramps from the doctor's appointment. Soon, she decided that she may be in labour and should just stay with grandma and her sister, instead of going home.

After Jordan (my older brother) had played his little heart out with his cousins, it was time for bed and that's when my mommy really realized that she was in labour. She was reading him the "Three Little Pigs" story and when the wolf huffed and puffed, so did my mommy.

After an hour or so, my mommy's pain's were 4 minutes apart and my grandma insisted she page my daddy and that my Aunty Lorie and her drive my mommy to the hospital and just meet my dad there. My mommy paged my daddy but felt that it didn't work, so she paged him again. At that point, my daddy was already on his way up the stairs in the Saddledome and quickened his step when he got the second page.

My daddy got in his car and was on his way and then realized "but where do I go? Do I go home? Do I go to her mom's house? Or do I go to the hospital?" He stopped at a payphone and called grandpa who told him to "go straight to the hospital"!

Meanwhile, aunty Lorie was driving as fast as legally possible (it was 9:50 p.m.). She stopped at the emergency entrance at which point my mommy's water broke. The two of them looked like frantic ants and it appeared to my mommy that all the two of them did was run around in circles around the van looking for a wheelchair to get my mommy into the hospital. They finally got my mommy out of the van and into the hospital and into a labour room (NOT a delivery room). This room was shared with 3 other mommy's.

Low and behold, my mommy's doctor was working that night (Dr. Graham -- which he wasn't suppose to be, according to her discussion with him earlier that day) and he came right over to check mommy out and said, "long time no see" to Aunty Lorie. Aunty Lorie had Doctor Graham for her last two babies and, again, it appeared that they were chit chatting with one another for EVER. All mommy wanted to do was push when Doctor Graham looked at her and said, "you can push now". Grandma just couldn't stay in the room and see my mommy in pain, so she went out into the hall. My daddy was still not here :(

One push, two pushes and I entered the world! My mommy arrived in the labour room at 10:10 p.m. and I was born at 10:20 p.m.! And THAT is how I got my name:

Justin Nicholas Joseph
... which translated (so to speak) is:
Just in the Nick of Time.

My daddy was downstairs at the check in where they told him my mommy hadn't "checked in" yet (which, she hadn't as she didn't have time of course). But my Aunty Lorie was THRILLED to bits to be able to see me born and says it ranks right up there with the birth of her three girls.

My Aunty Lorie went to move her van from the emergency entrance when she spotted my daddy and told him that he missed it. My daddy couldn't believe it. He remembered my brother being fairly quick, but this was ridiculous! My mommy had been worried that last few months of her pregnancy that she wouldn't make it to the hospital and had picked out my name even before I was born. I suppose if I had been born a girl, my name would have been:

Justine Nichole Marie <--- ya think?

My daddy was there for my brother's birth as well as my sister's birth. Want to hear their stories? Click on their names if you do :)
