Hi, my name is JoLeigh Abby Marie and I was born on October 21, 1996 at 2:10 a.m. I'm my mommy's third child ... but I'm the only girl :)

My mom's pregnancy was a shock as my brother was only 8 months old when my mommy got pregnant with me, but were thrilled once I entered the world!

Since both my brothers were born exceptionally fast, my mommy was really worried about making it to the hospital for me to be born and seriously considered a midwife and read a lot on home births ... just in case.

It just so happened that my mommy was at Bingo with my grandma and grandpa and had been feeling uncomfortable since she arrived. Closer to the end of the game, my mom asked my grandma if she could come home with her and stay with my older brothers cause she was thinking "this is it". My grandma kept asking my mom if she wanted to go now, but my mom felt it was okay to finish the games <hehe>.

They went back home where my dad was surprised to see my grandma there and they gathered her bags that she packed and headed off to the hospital. My mom was still unsure as to whether or not she was in labour or not. The time was 10:20 p.m.

My mom was put in a labour room and they put a belt around her belly to monitor me. The contractions were 20 minutes apart! There had been previous discussion as to my birth being a cesarian as I was so high up and there was so much fluid below me. My mom was still worrying about this. Her previous births were so easy, why?

There was also talk about sending my mom back home which she refussed and relayed her previous birth stories to the nurse and her worry about not making it to the hospital.

At 12:00<ish>, they put my mom into a delivery room where the only doctor on call was very busy.

There was talk about breaking my mom's water, but they didn't want to do this just yet as there was an emergency scheduled C-Section down the hall that was scheduled for 1:00 a.m. He wanted to wait until after he was done there. My mom was so very uncomfortable and had extreme back labour this time. The doctor came in close to 1:00 a.m. and said he'd be back after his c-section which would take about an hour. My mom said, "I'll be done by then". He didn't believe her.

My mommy was already feeling a great urge to push and the nurse told her to wait, wait, wait (right, like that's possible!) My mommy pushed and, well, the water broke. But it wasn't anything like my brother's births who were relatively easy! I was still so very far up and my mommy had to do a lot of pushing to move me down. There was a nurse and a student with my mom and dad and when my head started to appear, they actually tried to push me back in because there wasn't a doctor present to deliver me and it would have been A LOT of paperwork if the nurse delivered me.

With one hand pushing my head back in and the other arm stretching for the intercom, the nurse yelled CODE BLUE, CODE BLUE and in rushed the head nurse who delivered me just as the doctor walked in.

The reason, it turns out, why I was such a hard delivery (compared to my brothers) was that I came out "sunny side up" which means I was face up as opposed to face down. I guess it's close to delivering breech (which is bum first).

They named me JoLeigh cause in french "jolie" means pretty and that's a name my daddy use to always call my mommy back when they were dating. They changed the spelling so that I didn't go through life being called "jolly"! Abby has a special meaning, but I'm not old enough to understand it just yet. As for Marie, well that's my dad's side of the family "family's" name as is both my brother's second middle name "Joseph".
